Bamboo shiitake mushroom house was constructed in Senjo, Saijo-city from September 14 to 16

Bamboo shiitake mushroom house was constructed in Senjo, Saijo-city. We planted Shiitake mushroom at the beginning of 2023 and waiting the harvesting them. We need to protect the Shiitake mushroom from the damage by monkey and so on. Then, we constructed bamboo Shiitake Mushroom house based on the suggestion of Prf. Kobayashi, who is the pioneer of Bamboo house, and we, LRP members, arrange it according to the field survey. This work was accomplished by great supports by Saijo-city officers, Saijo-high school students, and its teachers, Dr, Tokito and her master student.

Firstly, we made out the physical model and we confirmed the exact location for pillars. We are not specialists for constructing this kind of house but through making out the physical mode, we could understand how many bamboo are needed for this construction. We modified the first idea through the interview with a local villager to protect Shiitake from wild animal, such as moneys and  Paguma larvata.

Main pillars were constructed and fixed with tube pipes.

We prepared needed bamboos. The local resident supported us based on their indigenous knowledge.

We continued to construct the house for protecting Shitake from wild animals. 

Saijo high school students and Saijo municipality officers prepared materials of bamboos for making out roof of the house.

Finally, we constructed the roof using bamboo. The first plan was modified considering the geographic conditions.

Almost finishing... It was too hot and there was so many mosquitos...

Finally, we took a group photo after the project was completed. It took three days. Although the people who participated changed over the three days, we are truly grateful for everyone's contributions. In the several days, we will cover the bamboo shiitake mushroom greenhouses with netting to protect them from wild animals. Thank you very much to everyone who participated this hard work during three-day holidays! We are looking forward to the harvest of shiitake mushroom.
