Science Camp 2024 Saijo High School and Kyoto University was held on August 24-25, 2024
Science camp had been held from August 24 to 25 with supports from Saijo-city and 13 high school students participated it.
The lectures were provided in the morning on 24th from Prof. Saizen, Assoc. Prof Asano, and Assist. Prof Tokito. Students learnt importance of field science and current challenges in Japanese forest. Through the lectures, students understood the harmony between forest and human being.
Students identified tree species, which were collected one day before at Senjo, referring the picture books.
We brought the identified tree species in the field survey on 28th, which were helpful to understand regions.
We enjoyed BBQ dinner with support of the restaurant named "Tsujimaru" and fire worls.
On 28th, we visited Senjo village and collect information via the interview with a villager. This information is helpful for us to understand the historical changes of forest and agricultural lands, and importance of usage of forest resources for maintaining natural resources in Senjo.
We visited some fields which used to be used as rice terrace. We could observed that these areas are shifting to forest. But still we can find ancestors' wisdom how they utilized regional resources efficiently through the field survey.
We investigated beetles caught via pit fall trap, which were set 2 days before. The differences of caught insects would be tips of biodiversity between forest and abundant paddy fields.
After the field survey, Saijo High School students presented what they learnt at the center for Saijo revitalization bases.
The outcomes have been exhibited at Saijo High School.
